7 Tricks to Beat Stress, Anxiety, and Fear

Stress, anxiety, and fear. It's a natural part of life. We try our best to avoid all three things, but it's impossible to keep them away for long. It just sneaks up on you and overwhelms you to the point where you feel like you no longer have control. But it doesn't always have to be like this. You can't avoid all three things and prevent them from happening, but it is possible to keep the stress, anxiety, and fear a little less intense.


1. Deep breaths


Breathe. It's as simple as that. When you take long, deep breaths, you are activating the body's relaxation response. Instead of feeling on edge and looking for all potential exits, you will soon feel at ease and relaxed. The tension in your body will be gone and you will be on your way to a more peaceful day. 


2. Get Excited


Turn your anxiety into excitement! Instead of interpreting the butterflies in your stomach as something negative and scary, try telling yourself that you are excited and ready to tackle the challenge. Turning negatives into positives is what will help you overcome the fear and anxiety.


3. Look at the Big Picture


Don't focus on the negatives you are currently encountering. They are only a portion of what is going on with you, and not everything. Make a list of the things bothering you and an equally long list of the things that are going well. These lists will help you realize that not everything in your life is going negatively.


4. Talk to Yourself


Talking things out is always a good way to calm down, which is why talking to yourself is great. If you aren't able to find someone to lend a helping ear or don't feel comfortable sharing, look at yourself in the mirror and talk. Tell yourself your fears and reassure yourself that things will work out. 

5. Lend a Helping Hand


Help others out when you can. Pay for someone's coffee, help someone move or even hold the door open for someone behind you. Nothing is too small when it comes to helping someone out. When you do something nice for other people, you feel good about yourself, and that keeps all the negativity away.


6. Trivialize Tasks


Look at all the tasks at hand as a game. Do your best and try to succeed, but if you fail, it isn't the end. You can always try again and do better. Don't be afraid to fail. Failure is part of the process to get to success. Just don't give up and keep trying. 


7. Recognize that you are OK


You are fine. You're alive, and you'll be able to make it through. Stress causes you to feel as though the world is coming down but you need to remember that it will pass. We will always have problems that we will have to face. That's just life. But just remember that at this moment, you are fine. You will persevere.
