The Chinese Lunar Calendar is formed on the movement of the moon and is based on a unique combination of astronomy and geography through observation and exploration. It dates back to the Xia (21st century BC - 16th century BC) and Shang Dynasty (16th century BC - 11th century BC). Though China uses the Gregorian Calendar like most nations, it still uses the Lunar Calendar to define holidays, dates of festivals, and horoscopes.
