Is there a mantra to success? Do certain habits lead you there? What are the qualities that make some people better than others at what they do? If you have wondered about the answers to any of these questions, then you ought to keep reading.

Success is generally a combination of luck, hard (and smart!) work, and talent. That is well-known. Let us delve a little deeper as we try to find some of the common characteristics that accomplished people seem to share.

They are creators.

Creation starts with an idea, which in turn is inspired by deep thinking, intuition and observation. Successful people come up with ideas, use it to develop content and share it with the right people. The ability to ideate, implement and scale up requires remarkable focus and energy.

They set real attainable goals.

The operative word is attainable. You can do that only if you are totally aware of your abilities and shortcomings. The goals need not be huge; infact smaller the better. The satisfaction of goal attainment on a daily basis drives future achievements.

They delegate very well.

The idea is to focus on what you do best and identify what others do best. Effective delegation leads to huge expansion in scale; no one person can win the world alone! Good delegation skills implicitly require great communication and the ability to motivate people around you.

They time their moves.

They have an innate sense of knowing when to switch jobs, start a new venture, change careers or when to just simply stay put!

They reinvent themselves.

Things are always in a flux. The ones who do not adapt will be eliminated. People who succeed are the ones who learn new skills, stay relevant and think up new ideas.

They can make bold decisions.

Mind you, bold does not mean foolish! They will have the conviction to stand by their decision even in the face of extreme criticism. They will not hesitate in taking a contrarian stand as well. Conserving the energy for the right causes is the key here.

They do not mind making mistakes.

Everybody makes a wrong move once in a while! But the ability to shrug it off and bounce back without scarring your self esteem is a real differentiator. Learning from failures and mistakes adds to the ability to make smarter decisions.

They come across as confident.

Most accomplished people have strong self-belief. It bolsters their resolve. It allows them to exude confidence and communicate with a conviction. While charisma is a god-given attribute, wit and sense of humor can surely be developed.

They are efficient managers.

They can generally lead a team well. Managing their time and the team’s by focussing on the important and disregarding the frivolous is another important differentiator. They can set an example for the team. When things do not go well, they take responsibility for their actions and decisions.

They enjoy what they do.

One cannot stress the importance of this. All successful people are able to build up towards a goal because they love what they do. They have a precise idea of what they are doing, how they are doing it and why they are doing it. Enjoyment leads to stronger involvement which opens the mind up to new ideas and approaches. It also makes you want to not just meet but surpass your own expectations repeatedly.
